The concept is to establish connections with the city, permeable, transparent and lifted from the ground so that the city can enter to become a place of exchange and connection with the city and local neighborhood. Classrooms for younger children located on ground floor are bright, spacious with large windows on the central courtyard, an internal shaded garden with a large tree around which the children can play and interact with nature.
To the edge of the courtyard is a library that goes up to the roof terrace and is open to everyone. In addition to paper books and virtual systems, the drawings, writings and memories of the pupils will be preserved here. The roof terrace will be the place where the children cultivate their imagination. Here a vegetable garden, laboratories of botany, science or elementary astronomy shaded by pergolas, a heliothermic machine that captures solar energy, a meteorological observatory in which to study the seasons, to fully engage the environment and senses.
The central courtyard is multifunctional, the living heart of the project – an entrance hall, a space of celebrations, a play area, an informal meeting space, a dining room and a garden capable of creating its own microclimate. Enclosed and mechanically ventilated during the hot summer, skylight openings will provide stack effect natural ventilation during the cooler winter. Water fountains, an old Arabic technique will enhance the passive cooling effect.
